Now gather round, children, while Uncle Shawn puts it in words youse all can understand...
The following is from a mailer that arrived via this morning's post ("The Charlottetown Summer 2008 Report, Shawn Murphy, MP for Charlottetown"):
Seniors are concerned about how the Green Shift will affected [sic] them and what impact it will have on the environment and the economy.
Seniors and the Green Shift
Why we must act now...
The reason action has to be taken now is that scientists agree that human action plays a huge role in climate change. PEI and the world require use [sic] to make big cuts in the amount of carbon we produce now to avoid catastrophic climate change.
Scientists agree??? Check.
PEI will experience increased soil erosion, sea-level rise, unstable weather and challenges to our water and vegetation supplies. For future generations to enjoy the beauty of PEI, something must be done.
No if's, and's or but's - it's gonna happen. Help! Help! Save us, O Great Liberal Party!
Will the Green Shift Tax be on Everything?
The Green Shift tax won't tax everything, just the things we don't want like dirty fuels that produce greenhouse gases. The benefits of the Green Shift are that there will be tax cuts on things we want more such as income, investments and innovation.
"Things we don't want like dirty fuels"??? Green Shift for Dummies is born!
After answering two more questions that seniors are supposedly asking - "Won't the Green Shift Make it Difficult for me to pay my bills?" (don't you love the random capitalization - and typo's?) and "Will it work by putting a price on carbon use?" the kicker is the last question:
What is my opinion?
Yep, not "What's your opinion, Shawn?" which would be in keeping with the format of the previous questions, but "What is my opinion?". Which of course Shawn then proceeds to answer in the correct Liberal way. Can't have those poor ole seniors straining their brains and thinking for themselves now, can we?
