The insignia of the Order is a stylized snowflake of six points, with a red annulus at its centre which bears a stylized maple leaf circumscribed with the motto of the Order, DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM (They desire a better country), surmounted by St. Edward’s Crown.
That verse is from Hebrews 11:16. It goes like this:But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
I decided to look up the context of that verse, and found the following:
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; and he set out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he stayed for a time in the land he had been promised, as in a foreign land, living in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he looked forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. By faith he received power of procreation, even though he was too old—and Sarah herself was barren—because he considered him faithful who had promised. Therefore from one person, and this one as good as dead, descendants were born, ‘as many as the stars of heaven and as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore.’
All of these died in faith without having received the promises, but from a distance they saw and greeted them. They confessed that they were strangers and foreigners on the earth, for people who speak in this way make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. If they had been thinking of the land that they had left behind, they would have had opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; indeed, he has prepared a city for them.
What irony. The faith of one barren couple, faced with a seemingly hopeless problem, led to the birth of a nation: God's chosen people.
Generations later, the faithlessness of one of these chosen, faced with the seemingly hopeless problem of inconveniently fruitful women, led to the death of thousands within our nation: Morgentaler's unchosen people.
Women - and their children - deserve better.

Good post. Interesting context you dug up there. We are harvesting the fruit of secular humanism and moral relativism and it is the death of our culture. Sin - rebellion - against God brings only one kind of wage ...
Fenris has an interesting post at DMB...quite a few are in shock over the award given out yesterday.
Our only hope is that God is soveriegn...He still reigns in spite of our failings.
What a world. The fight goes on.
Really good post. And as you say, so ironic.
Very well done. Thanks.
